About Us

Phi Delta Epsilon is a professional co-educational International Medical Fraternity representing more than 35,000 members (both young men and women) internationally. Founded in 1904, this professional co-educational organization began as a means of providing comraderie and mentorship and support among medical students. Its membership expanded dramatically and eventually led to the advent of its first pre-medical chapter in 1994. The extensive network of PhiDE encompasses medical and premedical students, practicing physicians, and distinguished emeritus members. It maintains active chapters on undergraduate campuses as well as accredited medical and osteopathic medical schools throughout the world. Over its long history, PhiDE has succeeded in building a network of committed healthcare professionals.

The pre-medical chapter of Phi Delta Epsilon unites students interested in a career in medicine and fosters their character development in leadership, community service, comraderie, and professionalism. It offers a supportive environment and extensive resources for like-minded students to pursue their goals of being physicians.

Here at UBC…

In October 2006, a group of UBC students teamed up in pursuit of starting a pre-medical chapter of Phi Delta Epsilon to unite like-minded students and enhance their preparation for Medical school. On March 24th, 2007, the Canada Gamma Chapter of Phi Delta Epsilon was chartered at UBC. This event was the highlight for our members who worked intensively to establish the principles and roots of our chapter.

Since our establishment in 2007, we have been expanding and gaining prominence on this beautiful campus. Our chapter is still young in comparison to the long-standing legacy of the International Chapter, but the passion and vigour brought forth by our members is the source of empowerment that has been driving our chapter forward. Our members are all exceptional UBC students of diverse backgrounds, united in our aspirations to pursue a career in Medicine.

General meetings are held once a week on campus, in addition to committee meetings as scheduled by the respective Commitee Chairs. Members are required to sit in a committee of their choice (Professional,PhilanthropySocial, or Charity Fundraising) in order to get involved and develop in the areas of professionalism, community service, and brotherhood. Events such as workshops/speakers, group volunteering or fundraising, and fun socials typically take place every month.
